U.S. Department of State Grants Astronomer’s Women in STEM Roadshow

Sultana Nahar, astronomy research professor, received a $75,000 grant from the U.S. Department of State’s U.S. Mission India Public Diplomacy Grants Program for the “Women in STEM Roadshow,” 2017-2018. Nahar will hold nine workshops in February 2018 to encourage and provide information to Indian female students from less advantaged colleges/universities. About 300 people will participate, including teachers, who will be mentored and monitored for one year. Astronomy Professor Anil Pradhan, Karen Irving from Ohio State’s Teaching and Learning Center; and Nasreen Haque of the Intelage Organization in Atlanta will join Nahar for the workshop lectures. Additionally, Nahar will hold sessions for high school girls in the U.S consulate districts of Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata, to encourage interest in STEM field professions.
